 A GUIDE TO ROBOTIC PALLETIZING

PicsArt_08-27-03.21.54Robotic palletizers are a type of palletizing solution that uses an industrial or collaborative robotic arm to pick, orient, and place individual or multiple products onto a single or multiple pallets inside the Palletizing Cell. Before the introduction of robotic/automated palletizing, manual hand stacking was employed to organize products onto pallets for storage and distribution. This generally slow method requires a lot of manual work relative to the overall output. To address this shortcoming, robotic palletizers were introduced into the market in the 1980s.

Palletizing solutions use a robotic arm with an end of arm tool (EoAT) or product gripper that picks up the product from the infeed conveyor and accurately positions it on the pallet. The robot is equipped with a variety of EoAT’s; from a single or multi-product vacuum, full layer vacuum, clamp, or claw gripper; as each EoAT is specifically designed for the product it is handling and the production output required.

Robotic palletizers generally offer many benefits in a packaging or production line. As a cost-effective way to reduce overall production costs, while increasing throughput and reducing the risk of workforce injuries, they make manufacturing processes more efficient and eliminate the human factor that can slow down the facility’s rate of production output. Production Systems Automation (PSA) offers a variety of standard and customized Robotic Palletizing Solutions. The modular design offers increased flexibility, high throughput and simple operation. They can handle a wide range of products using standard or custom grippers or EoAT’s to handle various styles of cases, trays, cartons, shrink filmed products, pails or totes.
